PlayStation 5 players can look forward to diving into the world of Sea of Thieves when the game launches in the coming months.

Sea of Thieves was previously exclusive to Xbox and PC due to Microsoft’s ownership of the developer Rare. However, a recent Xbox Wire podcast revealed that the game will soon be available to PlayStation players. The release date for Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5 has been announced, providing players with the information they’ve been eagerly anticipating.

When Is Sea of Thieves Coming to PS5?

Sea of Thieves will be released on PlayStation 5 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Players can wishlist the game on the PlayStation Store starting Thursday, February 22, 2024. The launch will coincide with the start of the game’s 12th season of content and will feature crossplay, allowing PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players to join forces and embark on swashbuckling adventures together.

This release marks a significant milestone for Rare as it is the first time in their 39-year history that they will be publishing a title for PlayStation. While Microsoft’s ownership had previously limited the game’s availability to Xbox, Sea of Thieves’ expansion to PlayStation 5 heralds a new chapter for the game and its players.

Sea of Thieves’ arrival on PlayStation 5 comes as a surprise but paves the way for more games to transition from Xbox to PlayStation. As players eagerly await the game’s release, they can anticipate forming pirate crews, seeking treasure, and embarking on nautical quests, providing an experience previously exclusive to Xbox and PC.
