Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that the PlayStation 5 console (PS5) has achieved sales of over 50 million units since its release in November 2020.

The sales of PlayStation 5 have shown a significant increase this year, with the introduction of the smaller variation, the PlayStation 5 Slim, and the launch of various peripherals in 2024. This year also marks the first time that PS5s have been consistently available for purchase in stores, which was not the case in the initial years of its release.

What Sony Has to Say About The PS5 Sales Milestone

Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, commented on the PS5 sales milestone, stating, “Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners.”

Ryan also expressed gratitude for the availability of PlayStation 5s for the holiday season, saying, “We’re grateful for all of our players who have joined the PS5 journey so far, and we’re thrilled that this is the first holiday season since launch that we have a full supply of PS5 consoles – so anyone who wants to get one can get one.”

No Better Time to Purchase A PlayStation 5

With the growing number of high-quality games taking advantage of the console’s advanced technology and the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, there is no better time to purchase a PlayStation 5.

Over 2,500 PS5 games are available for purchase, and PlayStation is currently hosting its biggest sale of the year on the PlayStation Store with discounts on Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, and EA Sports FC 24.

You can buy a PlayStation 5 Slim for the holiday season on Amazon for AU$769 or at JB Hi-Fi for $799.
