Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced sometime during this fiscal year.

After seven years of the Nintendo Switch dominating the market, fans can now anticipate the unveiling of its successor. Despite various rumors circulating, fans now have concrete information about the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, those expecting news about the next console in the upcoming June Direct event may be disappointed.

Nintendo Switch 2 Will Be Revealed This Fiscal Year

As part of their annual financial reports, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced on Twitter/X that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be revealed “within this fiscal year.” This indicates that the next mainline console from Nintendo, often referred to as the Switch 2, could be unveiled anytime from now until March 2025, marking the end of the current fiscal year. Furukawa clarified that the reveal will not take place during the June Nintendo Direct event. Here is the full statement from Furukawa on Twitter/X:

According to the statement, the June Nintendo Direct presentation will focus solely on the “Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024.” Therefore, it is unlikely that the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 will happen before this event. Consequently, it seems reasonable to assume that the Nintendo Switch 2 won’t be revealed until July at the earliest.

Recent speculations suggest that the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 might be delayed until March 2025. It is improbable that an announcement will be made much earlier in 2024. This news may disappoint fans eagerly awaiting the release of Nintendo’s next console.
