Striking Distance Studios Confirms Layoffs Amid Development of Callisto Protocol

Striking Distance Studios, the game developers responsible for the survival horror title Callisto Protocol set to launch in 2022, has recently confirmed a round of layoffs.

According to an official announcement, the studio has made the decision to lay off 32 employees in order to “realign the studio’s priorities and improve the prospects of its current and future projects.” This news was initially discovered by a Twitter user @bogorad222 and later confirmed by IGN.

A spokesperson for the publisher Krafton further substantiated the layoffs, stating that 32 employees were indeed affected by these changes.

“Striking Distance Studios and KRAFTON have implemented strategic changes that realign the studio’s priorities to better position its current and future projects for success,” the publisher explained. “Unfortunately, these changes have impacted 32 employees. Honoring the invaluable contributions of each departing team member with material support in the form of outplacement services and meaningful severance packages is our top priority during this difficult moment.”

The decision to lay off employees may have been influenced by the mixed reviews and commercial underperformance of Striking Distance Studios’ debut game, The Callisto Protocol. The game encountered various issues during its launch and failed to meet sales expectations, possibly leading to this outcome.
