Jean-Claude Van Damne Wants To Play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat

Jean-Claude Van Damme wants to play Johnny Cage in the sequel to the Mortal Kombat movie of 2021. Someone make it happen!

Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of the most famous action Hollywood stars on the planet. Despite starring in The Expendables 2 in 2012, Van Damme hasn’t been a major player on the silver screen for quite some time.

We’d love to see Van Damme finally play Cage!

That being said, the Hollywood actor’s name still carries a lot of weight starring in classic movies including Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, Double Impact, Sudden Death and more. During the late 80s to mid-90s, Van Damme was only topped by megastars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.

Furthermore, even since Mortal Kombat arrived in the 1990s, fans have campaigned to see Van Damme play Johnny Cage in a live-action adaptation. Largely due to the fact that Cage is inspired by Van Damme. Sadly, however, to this day, we’re yet to see Van Damme portray the popular character in Mortal Kombat.

That being said, if Van Damme gets his way, after decades of waiting patiently, fans could soon get their wish. That’s at least according to a reply by Jean-Claude Van Damme on a Facebook post.

Van Damme wants to play Cage in Mortal Kombat

The post in question was Warner Bros. Pictures updating its profile picture to Black Adam starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson which arrives in cinemas this week on October 21st.

A Jean-Claude Van Damme fan page replied to the Warner Bros post saying: “You have to cast Hollywood martial arts and action megastar Jean-Claude Van Damme as an ageing Johnny Cage in the next Mortal Kombat movie”.

Surprisingly, the real Van Damme replied to the comment by saying: “Thanks, guys! I’d definitely love to portray Johnny Cage. Let’s see who’ll win, him [Cage] or Guile or me”.

In case you’re wondering why Van Damme mentioned Guile, the Belgium action star played the popular Street Fighter character in the not-so-popular live-action movie of 1994.

Who else could play Cage in Mortal Kombat?

While a sequel to Mortal Kombat (2021) hasn’t been officially revealed, a teaser in the rebooted movie all but confirmed that a sequel is happening and Johnny Cage will feature in it.

Yet, at this time, the actor to play the cocky B-list action star hasn’t been announced.

Some fans have called for the likes of Ryan Reynolds or The Miz of the WWE to play Johnny Cage. However, according to an article from Giant Freakin Robot in 2021, industry insider Daniel Richtman claims that Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim, Sons of Anarchy) is being lined up for the role.
