The highly anticipated post-apocalyptic survival game, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, was discussed at Gamescom this year. However, the news regarding the release date was not ideal.
Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the home country of the game developer’s studio, there has been uncertainty surrounding the game’s release.
A significant number of the team at GSC Game World have joined the Ukrainian military forces. In order to reassure fans that progress was still being made, the team released a trailer for the game, honoring their colleagues and friends who have been lost or are currently involved in the conflict.
Projected Release Date for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Prior to Gamescom, there were speculations that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl would be released on December 1, 2023, according to an update from the game’s distributor, PLAION. However, this release date was not officially confirmed. During Gamescom 2023, a developer announced that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is expected to “launch on PC and Xbox Series X/S in Q1 2024.”
Initially, the game was scheduled to release in late 2023. However, due to the conflict in Ukraine, where GSC Game World is located, the production was indefinitely paused.
Fortunately, development resumed by summer after ensuring the safety of the team and their families, and establishing a backup studio in Prague.
The team has been tirelessly working on creating an expansive open-world for players to explore, along with an engaging non-linear narrative.
We anticipate receiving a more definite release date in the near future. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is planned to be available on both Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms, and it will be included in Xbox Game Pass on the day of its release.
