Are There Dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will allow players to explore a more expansive version of Hyrule than the one seen in Breath of the Wild, but will you be able to find Dungeons on the map?

When The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrives, fans of the popular franchise will have the opportunity to explore the vast world of Hyrule, and Nintendo has made it even larger with the addition of areas like the sky islands.

While there will be plenty to see as you wander across Hyrule, The Legend of Zelda fans are wondering if the highly-anticipated Tears of the Kingdom will feature the return of Dungeons.

What are Dungeons in The Legend of Zelda?

Dungeons are contained areas that offer valuable loot with mini-bosses and puzzles in different Zelda games. When players visit Dungeons, they have the chance to get their hands on special treasures.

These locations have contained different prizes for Link to collect throughout the series, such as fragments of the Triforce, musical instruments, Pendants, and other items. Breath of the Wild had mini-dungeons known as Shrines.

Does The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have Dungeons?

The official Nintendo of America Twitter account confirmed that there will be Dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While the developers didn’t show any additional footage set in a Dungeon, a direct quote from an ‘Ask the Developer’ interview explained that “the dungeons are huge and each carry their own regional look and feel.”

Prior to the official confirmation, the third trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom did show Link tackling challenges that would fit a Dungeon, such as diving into a cavern while avoiding lasers and turning a giant wheel mechanism that appeared to be part of a puzzle.
